Hypnosis is a very natural state of mind comparable to “daydreaming”.
The Hypnotherapist induces deep relaxation using a gentle progressive verbal induction. The recipient reacts according to their personal interpretation of the induction, and therefore hypnosis is very much a unique individual experience. In this light "trance" state, it enables better access to the sub-conscious mind whereby old patterns of unwanted behaviour can be changed for the benefit of the client. Contrary to the popular belief that you lose control when under hypnosis, the client remains calm and safe and always retains self-control at all times and cannot be made do to anything against their own will or moral beliefs. Hypnotherapy can be used for a broad range of issues.
By inducing a deep state of physical relaxation and applying a variety of hypnotic techniques, the resistance of the busy conscious mind is usually lessened, and deeper levels of the subconscious mind are accessed. This is the part of the mind where we store references to past events that affect our current beliefs and emotions, both positively and negatively. I help to remove any emotional blockages while the ‘resistant’ conscious mind is less intrusive to encourage your desired changes, and therefore help to “re-program” some of the previous templates relating to negative behaviour patterns, and begin the process of accepting, and learning to use new and preferable positive templates. Modern Hypnotherapy is a "Solution focused Therapy" (SFT) which means it helps each client to focus on a positive agenda during and after the hypnotherapy sessions. This helps a person to move on and progress, helping to identify realistic methods to encourage and manifest personal solutions day to day and to make the most of ‘being in the present moment’. By becoming focused on positive intention, thoughts and feelings significantly benefits subsequent behaviour patterns. This is where I personally feel that SFT appears to differ fundamentally in principle from more traditional counselling methods which in the opinion of many of my clients who have undergone many counselling sessions over a long period of time has been akin to looping around old problems without significant resolution to those problems rather than moving forward. SFT helps the recipient to become focused on creating a belief system to encourage methods towards solutions rather than analysing problems, or re-living past events or worrying about the future. Regression hypnosis is an additional method that I may also use in some, but not all cases as a further method of finding clarity relating to specific past issues.
During the Initial Consultation, I will be explaining in straight forward terms, the differences between the functions of your intellectual brain (The rational evidence based Human / Adult) and your primitive brain (The fear based emotional Chimp / Child), and how these complex areas of the brain can save us, serve us, or hinder us in our lives. Very often, my clients report that after the consultation, and before they have had any treatment they already have a much clearer understanding of what’s going on ‘behind the scenes’ with the brain, the mind and the emotions and behaviour. Each clients' treatment is individually tailored using the most appropriate techniques and therefore the effects & results are unique for each and every person. Many clients are really amazed just how much more relaxed they feel even after their first session. The number of sessions required does vary from client to client and your own treatment program will be outlined to the best of my ability during the Initial Consultation. At the end of the day, I essentially help clients to help themselves by really ‘engaging in their own process of change’. Clients will know and feel when they have achieved their goals. If you have any questions feel free to get in touch.
More about Hypnosis
As new technology develops, there is more and more understanding of the complex nature of the human mind, the brain and how it effects the rest of the body’s functions. When we change our thinking from negative and destructive into positive and productive patterns, we produce the right chemicals in the brain’s circuitry which in turn allow us to feel better, function effectively, cope with challenges better and enjoy life more, and with modern technology we can actually see the evidence of what’s happening in the different parts of the brain. Hypnotherapists have known for a long time now, that this change of thinking has enormous benefits, but of course it helps that we can observe it on a screen too. As incredible as all this new information is, the desire of the average person to understand the entire mechanism behind the mind and the workings of the brain is negligible. So enough of the science. But what we do know for absolute certain is that when something needs fixing, eventually we need to do something about it. Ironically, if our car starts to make a strange noise or something goes wrong we tend to book it into the garage straight away before the problem gets to be too serious, but we people do tend to leave things a bit longer when it comes to our own personal needs before we do anything about it. So if there is something you would like to sort out, the chances are I can probably help you. If you would like to phone me to discuss anything first, or email me please feel free.
I look forward to hearing from you.
